Volt battery pack, Chevy Volt Lithium Ion batteries
The Chevy Volt Lithium Ion battery pack provides a range of 40 miles after which a gasoline
powered generator begins charging the batteries. This video taking exerpts from Chevy videos
and Engineering TV interviews provides info on the batteries and videos of the first battery
pack rolling off the assembly line and first battery pack installed in a vehicle.
We still do not know the MSRP of the Chevy Volt. The batteries will probably be leased as is the case with the Nissan Leaf. This make sense because we do not prepay for gasoline now. The legal nuances of leasing the batteries will be addressed in an upcoming article.

“GM: Chevy Volt Price Depends on Cost of Gas and Will be Set in May 2010 ”
“The MSRP of the Chevy Volt remains a mystery. Despite the concept being unveiled more than 2 years ago, and the thousands of articles, comments, and interviews about it, the exact price of the car remains unknown.
GM claims they don’t know how much they will charge yet either. They say it will depend on the price of gas in November 2010 when the car is launched.”
“Another apparently unresolved financial aspect of the car is whether the battery packs will be sold or leased to the customer. Kruse noted the possibility of separately leasing the car’s battery still remains an option.”

“GM Exec: Chevy Volt May Cost Less Than Expected $40,000 Price”
“General Motors Co.’s long-awaited Chevrolet Volt may cost less than the expected $40,000 price tag, a company executive said Thursday.
The company, looking to make a big splash with it’s first mass-market, battery-powered car, expects to launch the vehicle later this year.
Critics have said the Volt’s anticipated cost, higher than other cars in the segment, would be a barrier to making the Volt a mainstream hit, even factoring in federal incentives help lower the cost of green vehicles.
Jon Lauckner, GM’s head of global program management, said the Volt’s price could be notably lower than the anticipated $40,000. “We have until this summer to figure that out,” he said, speaking at a ceremony to mark the start of Volt battery production.”
